Version 7 (V7) offers the option to use Firebird 5.0 for users who wish to take advantage of its advanced security and audit trail features. This guide explains how to use the Database Upgrade Tool to upgrade your databases and transition from Firebird 2.5 to 5.0 when moving from Version 6 to Version 7.
- Option A: If you are running the Database Upgrade Tool through the Version 7 installer, you do not currently have Firebird loaded on your computer, and you have existing databases, then you MUST select and run Firebird 2.5 on your machine.
- Option B: Navigate to the Database Updater folder at:
Local Disk (C:) → Diagnosys → Espion V7 → Miscellaneous → Database Utilities → Database Updater
- Open the Diagnosys LLC Database Updater application. You will see two options: Upgrade Databases and Upgrade Firebird. Always upgrade the databases first, and upgrade Firebird only after the database conversion is complete.
- If you have existing databases, click Upgrade Databases. The database fields should populate automatically. If they do not, use Browse under Destination Files to manually select the databases. Review the listed databases and confirm they are the ones you want to convert. Rename any files if needed.
- Choose a location to save the upgraded databases. We recommend the default directory:
C:\Diagnosys\Espion V7. If you prefer to save the upgraded databases in their original location, uncheck the Use Database Path option. - Optional: Create an additional backup of your databases. The upgrade process automatically generates a temporary backup of each database in the location specified under the In-Progress Backup Folder. If you would like an extra layer of protection, we recommend creating a separate backup before proceeding.
- Click Upgrade Databases to begin the conversion process. During the upgrade, Firebird will be updated from version 2.5 to 5.0. Please note that once Firebird 5.0 is installed on your computer, you will no longer be able to upgrade older Version 6 databases.
7. The upgrade process will run to completion. The time required will vary depending on the number and size of your databases.
8. Open Version 7 and navigate to Database Center, then connect to the new database location to access your upgraded databases.
